33 Books. 30 Minutes.

Almost half the books in the Bible can be read in 30 minutes or less. This year, I am proposing a different type of Bible reading plan than we have done for the past few years. I want to encourage our church to focus on reading fewer books of the Bible but with more frequency in 2020. Our goal would be to gain a more thorough understanding and deeper comprehension of the Scriptures.

I believe there is great value in reading books of the Bible from start to finish (like it was “a table set to be enjoyed”) instead of approaching it like “a buffet line”. There is great benefit in reading a book of the Bible in one sitting instead of picking and choosing on your way by.

So this Bible Reading Challenge aims to slow us down and help us gain context and mastery of these 33 books.

There is more than one way to read and study your bible. Please feel free to choose a different reading plan, perhaps one that takes you from cover to cover. However, I believe this method is a good way to vary your approach and gain insight into the scripture.

May I suggest, purchasing a “Reader’s Bible” for this challenge. It removes verse and chapter numbers and allows you to focus on the text in front of you. This can help you focus on the text and remove distractions as you read. -Pastor Jordan

Steps to the Challenge

Repeat at least twice a week.

1. Choose a time and place where you can most regularly find 30 minutes of uninterrupted quiet time. (This is often the hardest step)

2. Start with any book (or book section) on the list and read it through in one sitting. This will take an average reader 30 minutes or less.

3. Mark your completion of this book in order to track your progress.

4. For one year, see how many times you can read through these books.

5. Example: If you do this process just twice a week for one year straight, you will have read through all 33 books about three times each. Repetition will build your understanding and strengthen your memory of the major themes and story lines in each one of these books.
