SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS
  • As a group, trace the key movements in the downfall of Saul from chapters 8-15. Simply just using chapter headings can be helpful to grasp the storyline before you begin through the questions. Also, describe Saul, give a brief character profile of him.
  • What do you think is meant by these demands? “A king…like all the nations, “that we also may be like all the nations,” and “that our king may judge us and go out before us and fight our battles.” (8:19-22). Why is this tantamount to rejecting God?
  • Read Samuel’s forewarning and foreshadowing in 12:20-25. How does this foreshadow the story of 1 and 2 Samuel? How does it point out the same situations in our own lives today?
  • What is Samuel actually saying in his response to Saul’s disobedience in 15:22-23?
  • What can you apply to your own life from the examples both positive and negative in these chapters? Where do you see Jesus Christ here?
